BEARING OF THE BOTTOM HEAD OF THE ROD

Check of a working gap

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Clear a back part of the loose leaf and a place of its installation in a rod and a rod cover.
2. Establish loose leaves on the places.
3. One of methods consists in establishing covers of shatunny bearings together with the loose leaf on rods and to screw them the demanded moment. Measure internal diameter of each collected pair of loose leaves of bearings. Measure diameter of each shatunny neck of a cranked shaft. Subtract from the measured diameter of the bearing the corresponding diameter of a shatunny neck of a cranked shaft.
4. The second and more exact method consists in using a product known as for Plastigage. It is a round plastic core which is compressed between the loose leaf and a neck of a cranked shaft. After removal of a cover of the shatunny bearing the deformed plastic core is measured by a special template which is available complete with Plastigage. Procedure for Plastigage use following. Establish without greasing rods on a cranked shaft, necks of a cranked shaft and loose leaves should be absolutely pure and dry. Cut off some slices of a plastic core and establish them on each neck of a cranked shaft. Establish covers with the bottom loose leaves and tighten bolts of fastening the demanded moment.
5. In the course of gap measurement by the Plastigage method do not rotate a cranked shaft of the engine. Unscrew a cover of fastening of the loose leaf, remove it and to the deformed plastic core put the large-scale ruler printed on packing. Comparing width of the deformed plastic core with control width on a large-scale ruler, define gap size. In end carefully clear Plastigage-material traces from loose leaves and a cranked shaft.
