14.3. Safety locks and relay

GENERAL INFORMATION

SAFETY LOCKS

Safety locks serve to break off a chain, when the current will reach a certain value to protect elements and wires which can be damaged by too strong current. The sharp increase in a current is usually caused by malfunction in a chain, more often short circuit (see subsection 14.2).

The most part of safety locks is located in the block of safety locks on the left side of the dashboard, additional safety locks are located in the block of safety locks and the relay on the right side of an impellent compartment.

On later models one or three additional a safety lock of big capacity can be established in an impellent compartment, near the accumulator. On models at which near the accumulator one safety lock is located, it protects electric chains of anti-blocking system of brakes. If three safety locks, two safety locks, located closer to the accumulator are established, protect a chain of system of a charging, and the third safety lock located further from the accumulator, protects electric chains of anti-blocking system of brakes.

For receiving access to the block of safety locks on the dashboard open a cover.

For receiving access to the safety locks located in the block of safety locks in an impellent compartment, simply uncover.

Designations of the chains protected by safety locks, are specified on a cover of the block of safety locks.

Before removal of a safety lock switch off the corresponding chain (or ignition), then get a safety lock from contacts. In a safety lock the wire should be visible; if the safety lock fused, the wire will be torn or melted.

Always use safety locks of the demanded capacity. Never use a safety lock of other capacity and do not replace it with something another. Do not replace a safety lock more than once, without having eliminated a malfunction source. The capacity of a safety lock is specified from above a safety lock; pay attention that safety locks have various colors for simplification of identification.

If the safety lock fuses right after replacement, do not replace it again, yet do not establish and do not eliminate a cause of defect. In most cases, a cause of defect is the short circuit caused by a low insulation. If the safety lock protects some chains, try to find a chain because of which fuses a safety lock, including each of chains in turn (if it is possible). Always have a set of spare safety locks of various capacity in the car. They should be fixed at the basis of the block of safety locks.

RELAY

The relay is an electronic switch which is used for several reasons.

The relay can switch a current with a high voltage, without being in a chain on which this current flows, and it allows to use thinner wires and contacts.

The relay can have more than one managing director of a source, unlike the mechanical switch.

The relay can have timer function, for example, the relay used at faltering work of screen wipers.

The majority of the relay are located in the block of safety locks in an impellent compartment or behind the bottom panel of furnish of the dashboard on the party of the passenger. Depending on type of the engine, year of release and the established equipment additional individual relays can be established in an impellent compartment and in various other places of the car.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the chain or the system supervised by the relay, fails, and you suspect that in it the relay is guilty, include system.
2. If the relay works, you should hear click when giving food on it, in this case, a source of malfunction is any other element of system or connecting wires.
3. If the relay does not come into action, means, or the relay does not receive a food either switching tension, or the relay is faulty.
4. Check of the relay is carried out by replacement with its serviceable relay. Be thus attentive, as though some relays look and function equally, happens that relays look probably, but function variously.

Prevention

Before relay removal in the beginning check, that ignition was switched off. Then the relay can be got simply from a nest and to insert on its place new.
